Overview of Key Responsibilities
As a Teller at LOLC Unguka Finance, you will play a central role in providing top-tier customer service and ensuring the smooth execution of financial transactions. This position requires accuracy, confidentiality, and a customer-centered mindset. Below is an expanded overview of your key responsibilities:
1. Customer Transaction Processing
You will receive, process, and validate a wide range of customer transactions. These include cash deposits, cash withdrawals, savings deposits, loan repayments, and currency exchanges across different denominations. Tellers must ensure precision, efficiency, and compliance with internal policies and banking standards.
Accuracy in these operations builds trust and helps maintain a seamless customer banking experience.
2. Ensuring Smooth Transaction Flow
A Teller is essential in reducing waiting time and safeguarding the overall customer experience. You will provide guidance on various cash-related processes and ensure that customers move through the banking hall smoothly. When necessary, you will also support clients in filling out transaction slips, clarifying procedures, and explaining service options.
3. Core Banking System Operation Initiation
Apart from cash handling, you will do the entry, validation, and approval of transaction information in the Core Banking System. The types of transactions will, among other things, include account reactivations, money transfers, and account adjustments.
This will involve, but is not limited to, accurate and verified data entry, ensuring risks are kept to a minimum and the integrity of financial records is maintained.
4. Providing Financial Counseling to Customers
As a teller, you may often be the first contact with customers, and you would be expected to provide helpful advice, answer questions, and refer clients to relevant service desks when needed.
You will also explain available products and services such as savings schemes, loan products, and digital banking solutions. Identifying customer needs and referring them to relevant departments is a key aspect of this role.
5. Identification of customer needs and referring them accordingly.
You will profile opportunities during customer interactions when clients may need new financial products or services. You'll be providing initial information and referring customers to either Branch Representatives or Relationship Officers for further consultation.
6. Reconciliation of Cash Drawers
At the end of each shift, you will count and reconcile all cash to ensure that your drawer matches the transaction reports. All overages or shortages are to be reported immediately to your supervisor.
This is a task requiring high mathematical precision, probity, and capability in managing cash flow without errors.
7. Upholding Professionalism and Compliance
In addition to the daily operations, you should continuously align yourself with the values, ethics, and compliance policies of Unguka Finance LOLC; ensure data confidentiality, zero fraud, adherence to anti-money laundering standards, and a courteous approach towards clients and colleagues.
Qualifications and Skills Required
The following are the minimum requirements for applicants to be considered for the position of Teller. These have been expounded upon to shed light on what the institution is seeking:
1. Relevant Professional Experience
Candidates should have at least one year of banking, financial services, or related customer-service experience.
Preference will be given to candidates having specific experience in cash handling, transaction processing, and/or front-office operations, as this evidences a considerable understanding of the financial workflow and customer interaction.

You must possess excellent receiving, counting, validating, and reconciling of cash skills. Accuracies and attention to minute details to avoid financial discrepancies and ensure a smooth workflow are a must.

3. Educational Background
A Bachelor's degree in Economics, Accounting, Finance, Banking, Business Administration, or related fields is required.
The academic background ensures that foundational knowledge of financial principles, monetary operations, and customer relationship management has been acquired.

The Teller position requires strong communication skills, using politeness and professionalism when interacting with all clients.
